The realities of Life and Theatre
Thursday 9 September 2010
So time has passed and things have settled. One of the main reasons for me and my daughter in starting this company is that life and the everyday things takes precedent over Art and what we need to express. Within a short amount of time art and the need to be creative is forsaken for the everyday things we need to do. I never wanted to let my desire to perform and create or be part of the creative process to just fade away. As soon as it does the child in me would die. I wanted to be a part of a company that regularly did new and interesting short work so that artists of all types can exhibit, workshop and perform new shows that appeal to mainstream audiences and are fun for the artists to actually perform. Now that that idea is written down I am beginning to understand how largely unrealistic it all sounds. Hahahah bite off more than you can chew and then chew like hell till you vomit! Hahahaha!
Really for me the mainsteam appeal has always had more relevance than the critical aclaim or industry recognition. I myself am from those unwashed masses. I am a first generation Australian, there was noone in my family that was involved or even went to a theatrical events. I found it for myself and as such am fiercely proud of those who put themselves out there for others. I feel that mainstream audiences are the great and final frontier, there is so much untapped talent, enthusiasm and desire for entertainment out there that the they will even turn to reality Tv to find some relief no matter how fleeting and mediocre. Theatre needs to get it's head out of the sand and be more mainstream accepting. That does not mean lower performance standards or everything must have a fart joke but more to revive the passion of performers about just performing. The joy of being heard or seen to to sing ones heart out and be free enough to try something new and unseen is the closest thing to flying we will ever get. Performance groups such as Circus di Olie and the rebirth of Burlesque are a living testament to that.
That said with much mirth at myself especially about all my soap-boxing! Hahahaah! Ta da da da daaaaa!
Nov’el Cabaret Carnaval is proud to announce our new show, “An Evening with the Mad Hatter and Friends” which will be showcased over two nights as part of The City of Wanneroo’s, Beach to Bush festival being held this November.
The event will be held Live in the Amphitheatre "An Evening with the Mad Hatter and Friends"
on Friday 12 & Saturday 13 November 2010
The location of the outdoor Amphitheatre is Bellport Park, Bellport Parade, Mindarie (outdoor)
From 5pm Onwards
This is a family event being held in a free outdoor venue under the stars.
So if you have a chance come and see us perform as a group come and see what it is we are talking about and then you can see if the idea has merit or if I am just a little weird and obsessive compulsive. Hahahaha!
