Theatre Based Assignment
Fri, 15 July 2005, 09:04 pmI'm currently studying my Diploma in Make-Up Artistry. As part of my course i need to do an assignment on doing a budget for a Theatrical Production. I need to list all areas that will be listed on the budget. My problem is that i have no experience with these matters and my lack of knowledge is becoming frustrating. I have no knowlege as to where i can get a basic idea of the costs involved with theatre productions. I have done some research already but the primary areas i'm stuck with are basically insurance, wages, and where people get finance to afford to produce a theatrical production. It may be allot to ask but i'm stuck and feel like i've hit a brick wall. I would really appreciate any knowledge anyone could share at this point. Can anyone help?

Sat, 16 July 2005, 01:20 pmInsurance will cost most productions between $800 to $2000 depending on where and from whom they get their policy. For a basic idea you could take a look at www.duckforcover.com.au, who provide insurance for performers. For wages, you can go to the equity site, www.alliance.org.au, where you can find the 'your rights' section, and the relevant wages for performers and/or techies.
As for finance, well, finances come from a lot of places. Most people put in their own money (amounts depend on what they can afford obviously), and some groups are able to get grants/funding from the government. Productions also rely on sponsorship from local businesses, philanthropic foundations, memberships, fundraising (raffles, etc.), donations, and any other way they can find.
Hope that helps.
