Soda Siphon Wanted (Working)

It must be my age but I thought it would be simple to get hold of a couple of working glass soda siphons, the type 'posh' people always used to use after a day at the office (you'll not I omitted the word 'hard') to splash a little soda into their scotch.
I'm struggling, if anyone can help with a loaner I'd appreciate it. We're rehearsing now for a start on 13th May (it's a Friday would you believe) for a two week run.

Re: Soda Siphon Wanted (Working)

If you are in Western Australia, I have access to one. I am not sure it is working though. If I can get a contact number from you, I will let you know.

Re: Got Siphon need gas bulbs

You can obtain gas bulbs for things like that at any deli or grocery store. They generally sell them at places like that. It shouldnt be too hard to get 'em

Re: Got Siphon need gas bulbs

So Nimrod, I'm in WA, I've tried at least 8 bottle shops and pubs, 2 local discount cheapie store chains, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, Woolies, Coles, Dewsons and I've asked in every deli/corner shop I've been into in the last 4 weeks.
If you've seen them anywhere please enlighten me (preferably with an addresss, phone number or name), I'm beginning to get frustrated and I've only got 2 weeks left.

Haven't been able to track anything down, I'm afraid. They used to be available at pharmacies?

Unfortunately, they are restricted in most states to minors, partly because of the number of times they have been used to make homemade bombs, and partly because of the incidence of youths inhaling the gas (the nitrous oxide ones, not the CO2 ones). Also, they are not allowed to be transported by air, so the few overseas outlets I found are useless to you.

This US based CO2 site said they had suppliers in Australia, but I'm not sure if it's the right product?

Sorry can't be of more help

Re: The Soda Cypher

I shall contact my work and ask them where they get theirs from. I should get back to you tomorrow.

Re: The Soda Cypher

Pro Design Lighting in Perth hire out hand held air cannons that use CO2 cartridges (bulbs) but they have a long thread length on them. You don't need a pyro license to operate them as they use the CO2.

Give Michelle a ring on 94098964 and see if they will work.

Re: The Soda Cypher

Hello

I know you said you've already tried Dewsons, but I'm not sure which one, so for what it's worth:

A friend of mine just told me he has bought soda syphon bulbs in Dewsons Inglewood (cnr 8th Ave and Beaufort St) fairly recently. Apparently they are in the stationery section, underneath all the stickytape etc...

Good luck

: )

Soda Bulbs CONFIRMED SIGHTING

Hi again

My friend just rang again and said he has confirmed that Dewsons Inglewood definitely have the soda bulbs - they are $5.92 for a pack of 10. I think he said Aisle 4.

Ciao for now

Thanks to ALL who helped

Found them in my local Home Brew shop, but alas the soda siphon still won't work, the gas escapes from around the fitting so they must be just that bit too small, however before I look for a big bus to lay under, I'll try Inglewood Dewsons.
Thanks so much

Re: Got Siphon need gas bulbs

Sorry I didn't see this earlier

you can get these bulbs at almost any good bike shop - cyclists use the bulbs to blow up their tyres after fixing a flat.

I was actually looking for somewhere that I might be able to buy them in bulk because they are quite expensive (about $8 - $10) when you buy them individually.

Re: Soda Siphon Wanted (Working)

I know this is well after the event, but it might be useful for future reference/searchers.......

We wanted to use a soda syphon in a play too, and found the gas cartridges at the TWOC Home Brew shop, Stock Road Markets, Spearwood. Cost $5.50 for 10.

Re: Soda Siphon Wanted (Working)

How funny someone is actually looking for soda bulbs. I went to $1.00 a bag charity garage sale today at a Catholic church in the very little town of Three Rivers, Texas. today and put 2 boxes in my bag with a tag on them saying they were Soda Bulbs. Qty 10, Part#143-05, Carbon Dioxide (8 g) CO2. The inside tab of the box says Made in Hungary by LISS Ltd. It was the end of the sale and there wasn't much interesting stuff left. Then I came looking on Ebay and the internet to find out what the heck these things were and found my way here. I don't know if these are empty or full. I can't image someone donating empty ones though. Anyway, I am going to list them on Ebay if you are interested. Not sure who I have to use to deliver them - U S Post Office by truck?

PS. When I looked at some Australian sites that carry these, one emphasized that the ones they sold were NOT the kind used for automotive purposes and that it was dangerous to use them, that you should only use ones regulated for consumption purposes. I have no idea what the purpose of these are.
