tentative work exchange enquiry
Mon, 14 Feb 2005, 09:11 amHello
I'm considering a work exchange. Not sure how easy it will be to achieve.
I'm a theatre technician in Scotland at the Tron. www.tron.co.uk 230 seats 2 venues varied drama comedy music and Pantomime!
I design light and sound and have video editing skills.
Would anyone in Oz be interested?
What are the Australian equivalents of the Association of British Theatre Technicians, Equity or BECTU?
Do they operate any exchange schemes?
Look forward to hearing from you
Thanks

hello iain,
am from glasgow myself. nearly ended up ushering at the tron. as far as finding out about work exchanges over here, i would recommend you phone the MEAA(Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance)which is the union over here. that covers equity, australian journalists association and a number of others due to numbers required to form a union- long story. the ATEAA section of the MEAA is what you're after - look up the website in yer google.
as far as your skills there is definitely a place for them over here, but rather than go into all the places to check out, let me know whereabouts you'd like to go. australia's industry is not quite as big as scotland's, so there is always a queue, if ya know what i mean.
for a more indepth talk on the differences between glasgow and here i'd put you onto dave filshie who is the production manager at black swan theatre company - google. he is a great guy who used to work in the citz i believe it was? anyway, he'll sort you out regarding crossover info. another coupla scots are euan duncan at belvoir street theatre in sydney and alan surgener at yirra yakkin in perth - google.
if you see them about, word up to johnny mcknight, candice edmunds, stephen docherty, jamie harrison and the mad tumblers of glasgow rep and vox motus!
hope this has been a hand.
regards mick mccall, yoker toi theatre co, australia!
