Re: set and costume design course at WAAPA
They have in the past laura, but i think you would need to have and an exceptional talent in this area for them to do so. As with most of the courses at waapa they prefer you to have had "life experience". This said it is still worth applying and even if you don't succeed at least you get an idea of what there looking for and how to improve next time.
I don't know the average age of the students in this course but I think in the design course it would be higher than in some of the others. Moreso due to the levels of creative responsibilty that you are given as you progress through the course.

Re: set and costume design course at WAAPA
Laura,
Apply for the course. I attended WAAPA doing the Lighting course in technical production.
The audition process isn't that hard and I know from the many people I met that age is not an issue. One of the yougest students that was accepted at the time I was there was only 16/17 ( and they were in the technical / design steams)
Hope this helps,
Philip

Re: set and costume design course at WAAPA
I am currently a 3rd year set and Costume design student at WAAPA, The audition process is not that hard, as long as you are prepared.
It is only true for Acting and musical theater that "life Experience is a must"
for the technical side ie Production and Design courses they look for maturaty and to see if you are dedicated to the course. there are many school leavers in Staging, Stage managment, lighting, Design and sound....
just all you future waapa students BE PREPARED FOR A VERY DEMANDING 3 YEARS... As a designer I can be at school for up to 80hours a week !!! Which means NO life NO job and only WAAPA Friends. its hard BUT A LOT OF FUN!!!
GOOD LUCK ALL
