Showtech's update/solution to Public liability Insurance Issues
Wed, 5 May 2004, 10:17 am5th May 2004
Dear Industry Colleague,
As you know Showtech Australia have been working on trying to find a solution to the industries Public Liability Insurance problems.
We are happy to announce that after over 12 months of working on this process we have found a company and underwriter willing to look at our industry specifically.
Our main aim was:-
1.to find an organization willing to look at the entertainment
industry and address the current issues we face i.e.: Understanding of the entertainment industry and its many facets
The types of cover offered
The problem with the ever increasing price of premiums
Obtaining cover at all
Explanations of the cover offered
Service
2.To find an organization that was willing to look at each individual company within the entertainment industry and take each company on its own merits.
3.to find an organization willing to look at options and opportunities of de-creasing premium costs
4.to find an approved APRA insurer
Showtech have been working closely with Malcolm Freeman from Austfin Financial Services along with an underwriter to achieve this process.
You will receive in the mail or via email a letter from Malcolm introducing his company and the opportunities he has obtained for our industry. if you would like this sent to you please email me at rgood@showtechaustralia.com.au
This opportunity is not a Scheme, each company will be based on its own individual business nature within the industry, and you will be assessed on your merits, your safety and risk management procedures and your requirements.
There will still be categories that you will need to fit into within the criteria of the insurance assessment; however this has been developed in conjunction with myself and tuned very much towards our industry.
As much as I cannot guarantee this is a solution, I can say that is a big step forward to where the industry was 12 – 18 months ago, and if we can all work together on this process will ensure the longevity of our industry.
I guess it should also be stated for the record that Showtech do not benefit from this financially in any way and have taken this on board as a community service to our industry.
If you would like more information please feel free to contact me via email at rgood@showtechaustralia.com.au or by phone on 03 9645 4133
Yours Sincerely

Hi again Robyn.
Yes, I too am surprised we're the only ones posting about this. (Isn't Public Liability supposed to be one of the big issues in theatre at the moment?)
I've exchanged e-mails with Malcolm. He seemed to suggest that C.I. is a cheaper/better option for someone producing under a 'not for profit' banner.
Cheers,
Michael.
