Hello folks
The company that I am a member of is looking into establishing a website. We have a domain name, a designer and content to go but looking for someone to host it.
Any suggestions gratefully received

Re: website hosting

Hi Chris,

Depends on how much traffic, space etc you need and functionality.

I do the launceston players site www.launcestonplayers.com and originally hosted it out of my own personal account using free stealth redirection for the domain name courtesy of www.mydomain.com I then needed space for my own site and used free hosts for a while untill they became too much of a pain. Currently we are with www.ilisys.com.au on the basic hosting plan which is $120 per year for 10 meg space and 1 gig of traffic per month.

Hope this helps

Regards Brian

Wherever you may decide to go - and I'd second Alan's recommendation of Informed Technology; great service and they provide great rates for community groups and organisations - do give plenty of consideration to ongoing site maintenance. Some ISPs will offer access to a content management system that allows you to maintain the content on the site through a web browser without the need for specialist skills. A CMS is also a great way of distributing authorship amongst your membership to share the load of keeping a site uptodate.

Cheers

Brian Alan and grant
thanks for that I'll look into those sites: we are lucky in that we have 3 members who are competent at web design...
