HELP - Melb, Profit Share, July, Lighting/Sound/Stage Man needed
Thu, 15 May 2003, 08:46 amchance is a fool's name for fate
A fast and frantic black comedy about crime, karma and confusion.
chance is a fool's name for fate throws together a sham analyst, an unlikely
crime syndicate, a b-list starlet and a cleaner whose time may have finally
arrived. The action bumps, twists and grinds towards a hotel room and one
crucial moment. But who is the victim? Where can Krystal get coke? Why is
everyone scared of Spencer? And will Nick's mum remember to tape The Bold
and the Beautiful.?
Do you believe in chaos? Or is chance just a fool's name for fate?

chance is a fool's name for fate is a stage show, the end result of a
project initiated by graduates of the Australian Film and TV Academy (TAFTA)
to become familiar with the theatre process, gain stage experience and
collaborate on a fresh, innovative Australian play. the process began in
February and will culminate with a three week performance run in July. the
script is being written by myself (Thalia Kyvernitakis), I have previously
written/directed similar shows performed at Melbourne Fringe Festival and
Monash University. the show is being directed by David Myles, an experienced
and respected director and actor whose career has spanned the UK, USA,
Europe and Australia. he has worked with acclaimed companies such as the
National Theatre of Great Britain, the Royal Dramatic Theatre of Sweden,
BBC, ITV, Paramount Pictures, MTC, Playbox and the Victorian Arts Centre. we
are all involved because we are passionate about our various crafts and this
process. i am personally involved because i believe that collaboration
between 13 very different people doesn't have to be pretentious or
self-indulgent and that young Australian theatre doesn't have to be "Young
Australian Theatre" and that film is leaping ahead into all sorts of
innovative areas while theatre is in danger of becoming stagnant or, even
worse, so bogged down in experiment that it becomes meaningless.*
we are looking for a lighting designer, a lighting tech, a sound tech and a
stage manager. the show will have 5 areas which need to be lit and we are
aiming for a filmic, 'jump cut' look/feel so the lighting will be a
challenging and rewarding job. although the show has minimal set and props
it has a crime/thriller style and the stage manager will collaborate
primarily with the director to best achieve this on a low budget. anyone
looking to be involved should come with a sense of humour and
professionalism. we are a friendly group of people who i guarantee you will
enjoy spending time and working with and i further stake my reputation on
the fact that you will never, under any circumstances, turn up to find the
cast trying to sell you amway or convert you to christianity. this is not a
scam - i repeat - not a scam. although if you want a personality test i know
how to administer them.
the show is being self-financed by the actors with no further funds needed.
the basis of involvement is profit share, with the lighting designer and
stage manager each receiving 2 profit points and each tech receiving 1
(based on time). if the lighting designer/tech are the same person then that
person gets 3 pps. it is not possible for the lighting tech and the sound
tech to be the same person as the lighting will be enough to keep up with.
the lighting designer will be required as close to the beginning of June as
possible until production week where they will (with help) bump in and
supervise the technician for a tech run. if the lighting designer or
lighting tech also happen to have access to lights (or cheap lights) this
would be considered manna from heaven. the stage manager will be required as
close to the beginning of June as possible although there will only be a
small amount of set/props gathering so the main commitment is production
week and the show run. the lighting designer and stage manager will need
experience (students welcome). the lighting tech will need experience or a
lot of enthusiasm and the sound tech just enthusiasm - the sound won't be
that challenging unfortunately but what else are you going to do in the
middle of winter?
