what were people wearing in 1969?
Thu, 9 Aug 2001, 10:40 amor, more specifically, what were people (suburbs) in Melbourne, Australia, wearing in 1969.
in your opinion, are we talking full on flares, platforms, tight pants & wide ties or is 1969 too early for all that?
come on all you fashion aficionados out there...put me to rights!
i'm doing costumes for a show (first time, be gentle with me!) and am looking for some first hand info - have done research on the web, got books etc

What people were wearing in the suburbs of Melbourne in 1969 was pretty much what people were wearing the world over as fashion travelled very fast.
My advice is to get a copy of the video of the Woodstock rock festival and have a look. Woodstock was held in August 1969 and the video interviews people from the town near where the festival was held.
Failing that, just check out what Jarrod Buttery wears nowadays - it's pretty much the same.

I kind of disagree Dean. Not everyone wears the "fashion"...only people with money or maybe young people who are into it. People at woodstock would probably have all been hippies wearing flares and long beads - and i don't believe everyone wore flares or were all hippies in 1969.
thanks anyway - and thanks Sol for your input - that's kind of what i was thinking along the lines of myself.

Which is exactly why I mentioned that in the film they interview the people from the town nearby! So you can see what the trendys were wearing and the run-of-the-mill people as well.
