I am 16 years old and have done almost 2 years of work in the theatre at school, I have not only done school functions but a number of dance schools, musicals and dramatic performances

I have been trained mainly as a flyman, but have done sound and stage management.
I was wondering what anyone thought as to what I can do with this as a career...I have sussed out a NIDA course in technical production lasting 3 years.
I have had advice from many people - do the course..don't do the course, get out there and start earning
all that kind of stuff
i was wondering if anyone could offer their opinion

also, i was wondering if anyone was willing to take on an assistant for some sort of production in the sydney area as an experience outside of school. If you can, please email jakey@mbox.com.au

RE: Technical Theatre

I would suggest looking a some university courses like Charles Sturt University or WAPPA.
I am studying Design for theatre and TV at Charles Sturt and its a fab course.

RE: Technical Theatre

Do the course - you can still earn and learn at the same time and I am sure that most venues, if you get a job, will make alowances. If not, do the course - no matter what, that wee bit of paper is important.
