Perth Agencies
Wed, 5 July 2000, 04:06 pmCan anyone advise me of the better agencies to choose for someone looking for acting work in ads or TV? (Not just extra work).
What are the costs and are there any pre-requisites?
Thanks
Chris

Dear Chris
I'm not sure which agencies you've approached or been associated with but realistically, they are not supposed to charge you for being on the books. The way some get around this is to ask you to get expensive photos done or ask you to take courses which have to be paid for. They should also not be promising to get you lots of work because everyone in Perth knows that the film industry here is not enormous and there's not enough work to keep the professional actors going, let alone all the others who are interested, like yourself, in a bit of fun and experience but not necessarily a career.
If you are still looking to join somewhere, I suggest you phone 3 places and ask lots of questions about costs and exactly what they can guarantee you in the way of work. Then you can make a bit more of an informed decision. Try Spiers - speak to Linda, tel: 9322 1044; Actors Management 9322 6499 (Ricci); and Actors Plus 9421 1770 (Maxine). Tell them exactly what you're looking for and see if they can help you. Emphasise that you are looking for "casting" work and that you've been involved in community theatre (if you have!)
Good luck! It sounds like there may be a few productions happening here in the next 12 months, so you never know, it could get very busy for us all.
Cheers,
Jenni C
