Stage to Screen workshop
Wed, 31 May 2000, 07:18 pmI recently found myself in conversation with Mr Tom Lubin, Head of Training at FTI. Tom informed me of an upcoming workshop which may be of interest to aspiring screen directors: "Stage to Screen - an Introduction".
Hosted by George Whaley (formerly head of acting at NIDA, and director - I think - of the mini-series' "The Harp in the South" and "Poor Man's Orange), the workshop is aimed at theatre directors who wish to also work in film and TV, and will examine stage and screen similarities and differences, how a screen story is put together, organisation from pre- to post-production, and pushing around - sorry - directing actors for the screen.
The four-day workshop runs from Friday June 23 to Monday June 26 at FTI. The cost is $400 for directors or $40 for actors, according to the brochure in front of me. If anyone is interested in finding out if these prices are correct, or looking for more information, they are advised to contact Natasha Douglas on 9335-1055, or via
