As pointed out in another thread, for every problem there is a simple, neat, and wrong soloution. Very common example: During sound checks a loud hum or buzzing is heard in the sound system, when checking lights. Immediate response - stop using those dimmer channels - simple, neat, and wrong soloution. Real cause - faulty audio cable or unshielded instrument pickup, usually a known problem that the individual does not want to repair as the sound prblem is easily fixed by not using the dimmer channels that cause the interference. What impact will that have on your show? It would be cheaper for all if the audio cable was repaired. The more expensive solution would be for each venue this cable is taken to, would buy sine wave dimmers. These faulty cables can be detected by having a few dimmer channels up at 50% when they are setting up the sound system, which would give the audio people time to replace the faulty cable, as the interference has not been there in all previous shows. How many other simple, neat, and wrong soloutions are you aware of ?

Speakers?

" the speakers are humming, distorting, etc. therefore we need new speakers.I could sell a set of new speakers every week to some mug with this symptom.1 in 10 may need new speakers, but 9 out of 10 times it's gain structure or bad screening or an earth loop, every item in a sound system has to be earthed back to one point, if this is not pssible then the devices signal has to be sent by an isolation transformer. No sound system should hum, if it does it can be fixed in half an hour by following some basic procedures. For every complex problem, there is a solution that is simple, neat, and wrong.
