Does anyone know anything about finding a job with the Wicked Company in Australia, or if they offer volunteer or internship-like opportunities? I'm an amateur theatre SM looking at moving into professional theatre and adore Wicked. Just wondering if anyone has any info re who to contact? Or if its possible to "hang-out" backstage for a few shows.

Georgia, it may be possible

Georgia, it may be possible to do work experience - unlikely, but possible - with the company. However, it's more likely to obtain work experience with the venue itself: I will add that work experience for the most part usually means getting the dud jobs, and even if you end up doing work experience with the actual show, you'd probably end up doing front of house. To work on a show as big as that as an 'intern', you'd have to get in before the show actually opens (educated guess). I don't recommend hanging around backstage/around stage doors. Not the best way to meet people (if you've done SM, you'll know how busy you are after a show, and how it's not really the best time to make new friends): however, ALIA (www.alia.org.au ... I think that's right) sometimes run behind-the-scenes tours for members and the public. You should check that out. ALIA is probably also a good place to introduce yourself to the pro tech world. If you're looking for experience, then there is no better entry to the pro world by joining the crew of a local production company, like Showtech, etc. You don't say your age, but I'm guessing you haven't left school yet? In which case, you really should be looking at finding a list of companies which offer annual work experience placements. Many large companies/venues offer it, but they are few and hotly contested. If you need some more help, I could suggest a few theatres that usually offer such placements. Singing oyster shadow puppet for sale at Puppets in Melbourne

Hi, I would definitely

Hi, I would definitely recommend contacting them - they have recently offered a Production Assistant intership that started a couple of weeks ago, working in the Sydney offices, so it is likely they may do the same for Stage Managers - you never know unless you try! I would contact the Gordon Frost Company directly about that tho! Good Luck! Sherry *Don't Dream It, Be It*

They do offer work

They do offer work experience.. but they receive over 1000 applications for 50 spots (i think it's 50) for the whole year. Write a letter to the company manager to gain more information. The CM is a very nice guy and will be able to help you with information.
