Irish Lampy looking for aus theatre work
Sun, 18 Nov 2007, 12:21 amhi all, hope all are well,
I'm an irish lampy with three years professional experience both touring and as in house technician. I've mainly worked as lighting technician but also have experience as technical manager for some of the tours. I'm currently contracted as in house lighting technician in the national theatre, the abbey theatre here in dublin. this contract expires in january 08 and i wish to travel to aus in the first half of 08 on a working holiday visa. ideal situation would be to work as in house tech in a theatre in sydney for a while to get used to standard working and safety practise and then possibly to tour with a show as it would be great experience and a nice way to see the country.
if anyone could advise what my first step in achieving this should it would be much apprecated
thanks

Your best bet is to check out www.alia.com.au, and see if there are any jobs posted there for Sydney. Additionally, you should check out licencing for rigging, etc. There are several short courses and certificates you can do - I'm not sure if our certificates are internationally recognised and vice versa, so it's worth looking into.
ALIA also has a list of production companies and crewing companies, which you should contact.
Additionally, I would suggest using the search function on this site, and checking out the Arts Hub jobs feed, both of which should provide you with a good starting point.
