Hello, I am a Canadian girl who is about to move to Australia; to eventually become citizen.(one of those who met an Ozzy while traveling) I did a three year program in design for the theatre at John Abbott College and would like to study further in costume making to become a costume teacher. I can move anywhere in Australia so I can pick a school. So far I found NIDA, WAAPA, Melbourne Fashion school and TAFE who each offer costume for performing arts. I would like to know what is the best to get some costume/wardrobe work in the industry. Anybody from those school? And also what city is the best for theatre scene? Melbourne or Sydney? Fourth question: Do you have any part time and or shorter course on cutting, millinery or period making costume? Thanks any information is appreciate! Have a great day

You should also look at VCA

You should also look at VCA and Swinburne offers a costume course as well. I don't know of any places that does short courses, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Melbourne is more fringe work (ie. profit-share) and Sydney is more of a large/medium company scene. It depends on what kind of theatre scene you want - and the other states also have vibrant industries, though there is less work to be found. Either way, as you will see on this site, costume work is hard to find. You may want to check out the Arts Hub jobs feed to see whether there is any work going. Most jobs in costume will be advertised here. And you may want to download my large list of theatre links, which may offer some places to look for work, as well as some relevant costume sites: http://www.thepromptcopy.com/pip/theatrelinks.htm Sticky Apple Legs www.freewebs.com/stickyapplelegs Puppets in Melbourne www.thepromptcopy.com/pip My puppets www.collectzing.com/collection/137/
