Having problems posting. This needs to be more than ten words. Don't particularly like that restriction. This is a version with rich text disabled. Craig

Okay Grant, I've made a discovery. And Hi everyone else! The discovery is that I've been gagged from posting, and couldn't find out why nothing I've posted has worked. If I disable rich text, the post works. With rich text on, it appears as if I've written nothing. One of my attempts above had rich text in the message, but my lizard signature was rich text disabled....all that appeared in the message was the signature. Every time I post, rich text is the default, so it seems I have to remember to turn it off before writing. Can this default be changed somewhere? Or better still, the bug will be fixed! I'm using a Mac with Safari as my browser. Cheers, Craig ~<8>-/====\---------

For richer, for poorer

Hi Craig

Thanks very much for tracking this down!

Actually the default is switched off. But can be changed in your preferences:

  1. go to your account
  2. click edit
  3. look for a section part way down with the cryptic heading "TinyMCE settings"
  4. select off
  5. click submit at the bottom of the page to record your changes

I did a bit of checking with Safari, but must admit it was only to see if the editor looked like it was working. I probably wouldn't have posted a message. I'll see if I can replicate the problem and find a fix, although...

Looks like there's only partial compatibility with Safari on OSX. TinyMCE is generally regarded as having about the best cross-browser compatibility, so it will be a struggle to find anything much better.

You might try using rich text to edit the post/comment and then click on "disable rich-text" to see whether you don't have something resembling the HTML for your message?

Or, you could switch to Firefox.

PS.

Sorry about gagging you. I've been known to have that effect on people, usually when I strip to my bathers to join Felix for his swimming class at the local pool. ;-) Cheers Grant
