Big group of melbournites went to see Dusty last night (friends and family show-we were the first audience) and it was fantastic! A few technical hiccups and they had to stop the show for a few minutes but it didnt matter at all. Few sound issues but no doubt that will be fixed by opening! (there is a week of previews as well). Wow! Tamsin Carrol was phenomenal, her voice is amazing and her grace and modesty on stage is supurb. She is so much like Dusty Springfield its unbelievable. Wonderful voice, beautiful actress, stunning presence. Alexis Fishman as young Dusty was also fantastic and her voice is sounding better than ever (waapa mt grad 2004). She sounds amazing! Tamsin and Alexis blend so well as the mix of young and old dusty (voices too). Fantastic direction, great choreography, wonderful ensemble, all supporting cast are fabulous! Peg and Rodney (Mitchel Butell and Kaye Tuckerman) amazing support for Dusty, theyre both hilarious and have fantastic voices! (i have to say rodney steals the show a bit though!!)

I know im going on but PLEASE see it if you can, finally a musical with truth and depth, great writing, an amazing cast people who sing AND dance well and of course THE MUSIC. Fianlly a show that will get Australia's music theatre industry back on track!!! A MUST SEE!!!!!!!!

Dusty set to open January 12; Sydney season to commence March 23
Tuesday, August 16, 9:54am

Dusty The Musical is expected to have its official opening night on January 12 next year at the State Theatre in Melbourne, BroadwayAustralia.com understands.

The show is likely to open in Sydney on Thursday, March 23 at Star City's Lyric Theatre. It will then tour to the Burswood Theatre in Perth (June 2006), the Adelaide Festival Centre (July 2006) and the Lyric Theatre in Brisbane.

Dusty The Musical - which will focus on the life of 1960's music sensation Dusty Springfield - is to star Tamsin Carroll, Deni Hines, Kaye Tuckerman, Mitchell Butel, Trisha Noble and Glen Butcher.

Auditions for the ensemble roles in the production have just been announced.

Carroll being tied up with Dusty for almost a year would rule her out of contention to play the coveted role of Elphaba in the Australian production of the Broadway musical Wicked, which many believe will commence performances in Sydney from June next year. Carroll has been installed by many as a favourite to secure the role made famous by Idina Menzel on Broadway.

Dusty will be directed by Stuart Maunder and produced by Dennis Smithand Sue Farrelly.
