Personal Audition criteria for MT
Fri, 2 Dec 2005, 07:34 amHi Guys
Just wondering if there is a criteria that a MT panel looks for in a prospective performer other than the obvious talent but height and weight
I know any comments may be seen as discrimatory but what is the general consensus. eg my friend wants to audition next year for WAAPA, she is extremely talented like everyone who auditions, she says she's 5 foot tall but more like 4 foot 11 and a bit on the chunky side. She is worried that body shape and height will prevent her from getting in and she gets told she's too short all the time.
Do you think height and weight plays a big part in selection for a MT course.
Auditioning for shows it does. A girl from my school is on the other end of the scale, she is 6 foot and the directors of this musical had to asked permission from the lead female if she could appear in the same scenes. It was explained that the height of a person may draw attention away from the lead.
Many chorus line girls/show girls are all roughly the same height and I noticed at the Universal Studio's selection at Dance World a couple of years ago, most females selected were all about 5'5" to 5'8'' with dark hair with muscular physiques.
Of course these are not MT courses but I would assume WAAPA would take those who they feel would have the most successful career and thats where height and weight would come into it.
Has WAAPA taken shorties or even tall girls
Any comments

I don't think WAAPA really care what shape or size you are. Most of this years 1st years were really short and although petite they weren't all skinny!
can I ask why so much stress goes into getting into WAAPA???
Is it really that great?
