WAAPA certificate or BA

Does the Certificate have a second call back for auditions? Is it worth doing the Certificate at WAAPA. Especially if they dont garantee placement into the BA.

Interested to know how many of you would do the certificate. Is it just as hard to get into.

The BA is obviously the best BUT if 500 audition and only 18 places, thats tuff.

Interested in opinions please

Re: WAAPA certificate or BA

I came over from Victoria to do the Certificate Course, and I'm glad I did.
It's more then just the course itself, you get to see the standard that get in to WAAPA and just what is expected of you - as well as expanding your repetoire.

It is only 12 hours though, and it's all done after hours. Youth Allowance does not support it. So you can work during the day, or do it while studying another course.

I'd say yes - it's a great life experience and great fun.

Re: WAAPA certificate or BA

Ruth, was it as difficult to get into the Cert.

Did you do the dance audition? Are there 24 in your class.

Do you have the same teachers as the BA.

Do you do a performance? and do you ever combine with the BA students.

Sorry so many questions.

I have been offered places in 2 other music theatre schools, smaller private ones. People have said the CERT is a waste of time, its only the BA students they focus on. But thats all heresay, maybe sour grapes.

Glad you like it.

Re: WAAPA certificate or BA

Generally you don't have to do a dance ausition for cert.
They take 24 people
You have the same dance teachers as the BA, the other teachers are all influential in their respective professions around Perth
You have one performance at the end of the year to show all your class work to a small audience, it's really more of a
It's an after hours course so you don't officially get to combine with the BA students. You do however get free tickets to all the BA's shows.
I highly recommend it, it's heaps of fun and you meet heaps of ppl and it's all experience.
hope that helps

Re: WAAPA certificate or BA

Soph,

I'm not sure how hard it is to get into Certificate I'm sorry. But the course is mainly made up of WA ppl, there was one other guy in the class from interstate.

I didn't do a dance audition to get in and there was 24 in my class.

I had some of the same teachers as in the BA, the dance, song and dance teacher and the acting teacher were all working in the BA course when I was there.

You do an end of year showing for family and the David, Jenny and Crispin, the heads of the BA course. I'm sure certificate isn't the top of their list of priorities, but we weren't left out in the cold either. It's really what you want to make of it.

Again, it's only my personal opinion - but I really enjoyed it and learnt a lot from the course. It's more then just the course, you get an idea of what WAAPA are looking for and an idea of the BA course etc.

If you are coming from interstate though, WAAPA has a great support network and I made some great friends during the course, and decided to stay in WA.

Hope this helps!

Re: WAAPA certificate or BA

i hear once you get to the callback stage it's a 1 in 4 chance of succsess for the certificate course, and 1 in 8 for the BA. heard that from some ex-waapa certificate students... not sure of the accuracy :)

Re: WAAPA certificate or BA

Does it ever happen, if you get a second call back for the cert but they then change their mind for the BA and vice versa?

I mean, if there is a different panel on the second call bck they might think differently?

Re: WAAPA certificate or BA

Watching the BA performance would be difficult for those ppl in the cert course who didnt get into the BA.

My friend go a place in the cert a few years ago but didnt take it cos it was second best. Not a good attitude but she wanted the BA. She shouldnt have marked the cert course!!

Have many cert ppl got into the BA later or got into shows????
