My sister has just finished a pro-am production of Shout in Adelaide with Daniel Scott, David Hawkins (who was also Lee Gordon in the original Shout) and Tony Lamond.

Ross Coleman was the choreographer, he has choreographed and directed many professional musicals- the original touring Shout, presently Dusty, The Music Man,Bye Bye Birdie etc. He recommended to my sister to go to Sydney and audition in whatever she can. He said she would have been perfect for the Producers but thats a bit late (she is 6foot tall and blonde) However, where do you find out about all the BIG auditions. He said they are auditioning for 'The Boy from Oz' soon or has that already happened. When your not familiar with the processes it difficult to know where to start. (This website has auditions I know)

While she is in Sydney she would like to do a musical theatre course and was thinking of auditioning for CODA- at the Sing over King but after reading their website there is no dance involved in the course. She is too late for NIDA. Does anyone know where she would go for musical theatre training. She is 20 and has been singing and dancing in competitions/eistedfodds since the age of 4 years and involved in a few pro-am productions.

Adelaide being the small town that it is, it is very limited thats why I am auditioning for WAAPA on Thursday in Perth. Last year they came to Adelaide and took no one, that says it all. Although one girl I know who tried out is just amazing and I was so shocked when she didn't get in- she was snapped up by the Ballarat Academy of Performing Arts(BAPA)

Re: Auditions in Sydney

Wow I am from SA too and agree nothing here. You cant even go anywhere to do casual dance classes except for Ausdance.

It is so clicky and competitive the good dance schools anyway. Wouldn't waste my time with the small ones. Not many workshops here either.

Good luck to your sister, I will do same soon.

Re: Auditions in Sydney

Yep... I think you need to move on from good old Adelaide

My daughter has had offers from Mackay and Rockhampton ... Mackay is musical theatre, Rockhampton is PA

She's also going to audition Wappa, Ballarat

She worked with Rachael Beck once and she too said that if you are serious you need to go interstate

Bit late for everywhere this year...I'd suggest she does a bit more research and makes a concerted effort at the ones she wants next year

WAAPA audion masterclasses etc are good value
WAPA tends to take older students for the three year course

Re: Auditions in Sydney

"CODA" Course at Sing Over King doesn't have a dance component because we prefer to offer placement to students who already have a high level of dance training. You cannot learn to dance in one year, or even in three. I believe that dance is something that you should really start when you are young. "CODA" is a great part time course, especially for dancers. It concentrates soley on singing and acting related subjects. (for many dancers these are their weaker elements)
As it is a part time course, most of our students pick up one or two professional dance classes during the week, to keep their skill levels up.
This means at our end of year industry showcase, as well as bringing in a Musical Director and Director, we can use great choreographers to set fantastic musical numbers in very different styles, knowing that all our students are more than capable of dancing routines at a professional level.
To my knowledge in most of the "Music Theatre" Courses, the dance component on offer is fairly basic, certainly nothing new for someone who has danced all their life.
If you would like to discuss the CODA course further, I can be contacted @ Sing over King on 9517 3344
Best Wishes

Re: Auditions in Sydney

hi there, i absolutely agree with linda, hi there linda . havent seen you since ross coleman days!
depending on what level you are at with acting and singing. actt, the actors college of theatre and television in sydney has a cert iv in music theatre that has a dance unit -competency levels vary depending on student ability. its a one year full time course. i think with most mt courses,an experienced dance student should be prepared to take outside class. this is a new mt course having just completed its first successful year this year. auditions are 9th december for 2006. 92126000 if your interested.
good luck!

Re: Auditions in Sydney

Thank you caroline, yes my sister has contacted Linda about auditioning.

She is also a bit cross that I put all that info about her on the forum oops but at least she is doing something about it now.

Yes what LN said makes perfect sense. Sounds like a great course.
