What kind of show are you auditioning for? That often determines what kind of song to sing? Thoroughly Modern Millie is a great musical filled with great ballads for females. Also some stuff by Stephen Flaherty could be good!

Re: Ballad for Audition
Look, I'm going to recommend Sondheim because I'm in love with him. Also his music is often a welcome break for auditioners with all the Lloyd Webber and the usual girls desperately trying to prove that they CAN sing "On My Own" SOOOO much better than anyone else has because they TOTALLY relate to Eponine.
Hmmm, rage dump. Anyway, try singign something from Into the Woods or Sweeney Todd. Also look up Chess, theres some cute songs in there.
But then again, it all depends on what you're auditioning for, which by the way is....?

Thanks LJ and Mrs Sondheim...
Oh, I am in the process of compiling a list of songs that could be possiblities for the WAAPA auditions this year. It's nearly that time of the year again :)

Yeh likewise aeva, well as i said dont go for the obvious choices. Thoroguhly Modern Millie, Little Women, and Jane Eyre are great musicals with plenty of stuff for females. Hope that helps a bit!

Re: Ballad for Audition
Yer whatever you do, DONT do 'On My Own'!! The audition panel hear it all too often each year of Aud's. Prob good idea to stay away from Webber all together, & Jason Robert Brown too. Sondheim is good and although they (WAAPA) have taken away the "include a Pre 60s song" as one of your 2 songs, don't disregard the older material. There's some really good stuff there.
good luck!

YES! I whole heartedly agree. Wicked is a fabulous choice.
