Hello SARE

This has been covered before so have a look in the past posts.

Do a Search Site located in top left hand corner, I looked up waapa audition and found a lot of posts including training courses to prepare you for WAAPA auditions.

Re: WAAPA Auditions

Thanks Don.

Couldn't really find anything specifcally discussing the dance audition. What sort of technique is tested? Is it more classical, tap, modern?

Can anyone help me out with this?

Re: WAAPA Auditions

Are there any first hand accounts of auditions for the music theatre course? I've researched the bare information on what will be tested and have a fair idea of material, but don't have much of an imagining on what the process would be. Anyone out there done an audition, successful or not?

Em.

Re: WAAPA Auditions posts

Is this concerning the certificate or bachelor auditions?
I'm fairly sure they only do jazz dancing in the music theatre auditions but they take into account your dancing background (i.e. if you have also trained in ballet/tap)

Re: WAAPA Auditions posts

in WA you do your first audition which is your singing and acting in front of 2 people
then in the callback you do your singing and acting in front of 4/5 people
In either of these there may be an interview. but no dancing

In the second callback, you do your singing and acting and then you do scene work etc, development of works. and then you do a jazz class. The class includes floor work basic principles of jazz, and then a routine.

Theres no other dancing audition. Its just what is in your CV.
They really just want to see how your body moves and if your connected with your body, so you can be successful at the end of the course.

Re: WAAPA Auditions posts

Does anyone know how guys generally fare at WAAPA music theatre auditions? What's the proportion of guys to girls in the course? Is there any particular type of male performer that they are looking for?

Re: WAAPA Auditions posts

Yeah, is there any information about guys, as I've got a friend I'm trying to force to audition with me, but he doesn't know if he's right for WAAPA...

Emms.

Re: WAAPA Auditions posts

Hey Em, I've spoken to a friend of a friend who is a current WAAPA 2nd year student. He tells me that he wasn't really a good dancer when he started, but he has been performing in school plays etc since he was little. So he's had some acting/singing experience.

From what I've observed, potential WAAPA male students have to be a bit more flamboyant than your "average" male! Good with expressing emotions and such...

Re: WAAPA Auditions posts

Hey Sare, great info - thanks! Do we have the word on what kind of singer they accept? I'm a high baritone at best, and I was wondering if they mainly seek tenors.
