I think it is worth noting that the workshop on directing musical theatre will be conducted by a man who was Head of Musical Theatre at WAAPA for over 11 years - Mr. John Milson. What this bloke doesn't know about musical theatre could be inscribed on the proverbial head of a pin (or a certain part of a gnat's anatomy in the cruder version).
Worth the trip to Kalamanunda on it's own - but on top of that are other workshops also of incredibly high standard as well as superb entertainment after the workshops.

Directing Musical Theatre


We are delighted that John will be joining us this weekend, here's John's bio....


Over the past 33 years John Milson has established an Australia-wide reputation as a director and teacher in opera, operetta musicals and drama.
He has been Artistic Director of the Marian Street Theatre (Sydney), the T.N. Company (Brisbane),and both the Hole In The Wall and Effie Crump theatres in Perth.
As a freelance he has directed for Queensland Theatre Company and La Boite (Brisbane), Nimrod Theatre and N.I.D.A. (Sydney), The Australian Shakespeare Company and many others.
He has directed over 60 productions, of 52 musicals and is proud that 12 of these have been Australian. He was for 11½ years Head of Musical Theatre at the W.A. Academy of Performing Arts.
Nowadays he directs and teaches at both the Academy and the Australian Opera Studio at Midland.
Forthcoming productions include Britten’s opera “The Rape of Lucretia” at the Regal Theatre in June, and the WA premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s “Candide” at the W.A. Conservatorium in October.
