Re: We Will Rock You

I'm guessing

No young performers needed.?.. ie 15 years

Re: We Will Rock You

I have nothing to do with the production, so I'm not qualified to answer that question, I'm sorry. I just said I'd put up the casting info once I found out, so I did.

Re: We Will Rock You

Danni,

I am not involved with this production either but have seen the show on the West End. It is mostly a relatively young cast but there are no roles specifically for your age-group. Why not send in your CV anyway, it can't hurt.

Gill

PS: They are also re-casting the show in London if anyone is going to be here on Thursday Feb 13th!

Re: We Will Rock You

Hi Amanda,
I am also interested in this upcoming production. I'm also fifteen to and I was just wondering what the musical "We Will Rock You" is about? Also were will the production take place? In North Caulfield?
Thankyou for your message and if you can please relpy to my questions.

Re: We Will Rock You

'We Will Rock You' is the musical with a book by Ben Elton and music by Queen. There's a website for it, but I can't remember the URL so I'm sure if you go to Google and do a search it will pop up immediately.

It's currently running on the West End, and if you saw either 'Party at the Palace' or any of the Golden Jubilee celebrations you would have seen bits of it. The lovely Billy Jinks put a review on this very website about the London production (which I will be seeing in August, Gilly! Clear off your sofa, coz I'm a-coming to London!)

The production for which I put the casting agent's name up for is the multi-million dollar, fully professional production which will be receiving it's Australian premiere in Melbourne at the Regents Theatre. By all appearances (and this is only me guessing - don't take it as gospel), cast members need to be young-ish dancer-types with pop-rock style belt voices. Having said young-ish, however, Nigel 'Neil From The Young Ones' Planer was (still is?) in the West End production.

I re-iterate, I am just an actor! I just put the info up because, being a professional performer and a dyed-in-the-wool Queen fan (Eliot, Grant, David: did I mention I've met Brian May?) I said I would put up the 'how to *maybe* get an audition info' as soon as I'd found out. Everything I have written in this post is an educated guess, and I have NOTHING to do with the production.

My thinking with the 15 year olds who have posted here is the same as Gill's - submit a professional head shot and CV and see if you can get an audition. To spare disappointment, however, I'm thinking that unless you're at Brent Street, Dance World 301, have some mighty fine credits on your CV, have a top gun agent or are Nikki Webster, you probably won't get one. Again, this is only my opinion and shouldn't be accepted as definite.

And this is me signing out on this topic,

We Will Rock You

Music and Lyrics by Queen
Story and Script by Ben Elton
Directed by Christopher Renshaw
Choreography by Arlene Phillips

Dominion Theatre, London
Friday June 28th, 2002

Being a huge fan of both Queen and Ben Elton I knew that I would have to find We Will Rock You at least a little entertaining. When the show opened with the ensemble dressed in silver Jetson’s-like school uniforms singing Radio Ga Ga complete with new “internet goo goo” and “Globalsoft ga ga” lyrics I must admit that I was really worried about what I had just spent over 90 pounds on two tickets to see. I am happy to say that this number was, in my opinion, by far the worst in the show.

Fortunately the rest of the songs were not quite so badly ‘adapted’ to fit he show’s storyline. We Will Rock You is set in the not too distant future and Killer Queen and her company ‘Globalsoft’ rule the world. ‘Real’ music has been completely replaced by computer generated (for want of a better word) crap and all musical instruments have been destroyed. The story is completely wacky, as can be expected of young Ben, but is also extremely funny and very, very clever. The cast were generally excellent and the band were, well… gods (any other word wouldn’t do them justice).

Tony Vincent (Simon from the modern movie version of Jesus Christ Superstar) played the leading man, Galileo Figaro (yes, itÂ’s true). Tony has an incredible voice, was an absolute delight to listen to (and look at) and certainly did Freddie justice without trying to emulate him, but I felt that his acting was just a little over the top for my liking (but what would I know, heÂ’s the big West End star!)

Hannah Jane Fox, who also starred in Rent on the West End, played the female lead Scaramouche (I can hear Eliot groaning now) and was the standout performer for me. Among other positives her voice was to die for and her comic timing was impeccable.

Another highlight for me was seeing Nigel “Neil” Planer live on stage and singing! He played Pop, the ageing hippy (a bit of a stretch for him huh?) and I thought he was fabulous. Aussie Amanda Harrison, who some of you may have seen as Liza Minelli in the Perth run of The Boy From Oz was part of the ensemble and is understudy to the two young female lead roles. (I’m not jealous at all!)

The whole spectacle of We Will Rock You was awesome and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone heading to London in the near future. Although if youÂ’re not a fan of Queen or Ben Elton IÂ’d probably give it a miss because for all itÂ’s talent, humour, flashy electronic effects and amazing costumes itÂ’s pretty much a long Ben Elton sketch come Queen tribute concert.

Re: We Will Rock You

Hi Jason, I went to see the show in Melbourne last October and they had plenty of recordings of We Will Rock You on sale both at the theatre and around all of the city's major CD stores. So my only advice on this matter can be: Hang in there! Copies are coming!

Oh and by the way, the CD is a recording of the London cast, not the Aussie version.

All the best, El Machine

Re: CD of the stage show?

Yes there is a cd of the stage show of We Will Rock You. It was sold at the chosen venue where it was playing. At the moment I have not seen it at shops, but that's not to say it never will be. Hope this helps.

Re: CD of the stage show?

May I suggest, for them what live in Perth (and possibly even them what don't) a little shop in Claremont called That's Entertainment.

3 Old Theatre Lane
Bay View Tce
Claremont

08 9383 2386

www.thatsentertain.com.au
info@thatsentertain.com.au

If Ann doesn't have it she will get it in for you.
I don't think the website is up and running yet, but it soon will be.
I think she does mail order as well.

It is through Ann that I have recently got Avenue Q; Wicked; Damn Yankees and all of the currently available Fiddler's (which I am directing later this year at Roleystone, plug, plug).
Last time I was in she even had Urinetown and Bounce sitting on the shelves.

Undoubtedly THE shop in Perth for Show Tunes!

Re: We Will Rock You

We Will Rock You is coming to Sydney very, very soon. It is now playing in Brisbane and was scheduled to continue on to Sydney the start of September. However, the Brissy season has been extended (yet again) and the last show now is set for September 21, the cast are still staying in Brissy until September 24, or thereabouts. If this is now correct information the WWRY will be heading to Sydney for November. Hope this helps

Re: We Will Rock You

Do you know if there will be and Australian cast recording of this amazing production? I have seen this show so many times. I have the London cast recording, but I am eager to have a copy of the amazing Australian cast doing their thing!

Re: We will rock you

I know how you feel! I saw the show in Melbourne 6 times and once in Sydney! It does not look like it will return to Melbourne. I have heard that Kate Hoolihan and Amanda Harrison are leaving the show too! I have heard that the show is moving around Australia. However, I am not sure if this is entirely accurate.
