Use WAAPA Audition Pieces at ACTT!

Late Round Auditions 6 – 12 January 2011

The Actors College of Theatre and Television (ACTT) is holding ‘Late Round’ auditions for the Certificate IV in Music Theatre during the week from 6 January to 12 January, beside Central Station with easy access from the entire Sydney region.

Aspiring music theatre performers with talent, determination to succeed are encouraged to contact ACTT to get in touch before the 2011 auditions start on 6 January. Applicants can download guidelines from the ACTT website. They should have sheet music prepared for an up-tempo song and a ballad and should have a well-rehearsed acting monologue. If they have already prepared an Audition Piece for another major college they can re-use it at ACTT. All auditionees receive individual feedback and advice from senior Directors to help them in their prospective career.

The Music Theatre Performer: Music Theatre is the ideal program for singers and dancers who want to develop their acting technique and their overall music theatre ability, to prepare for roles in music theatre productions, or to successfully audition for higher level training.

“This was the best year of my life. I absolutely loved it, I felt so nurtured by fantastic tutors who still mentor me today” Kate Walder (ACTT Graduate and Music Theatre Performer)

Triple Threat – Singer, Actor, Dancer: The course prepares students for the three essential demands of a career in the music theatre industry: Acting, Singing and Dancing - known in the industry as 'The Triple Threat". The training is holistic, vocational, and studio-based. It draws upon the college's strengths in voice, movement and acting to develop much more than these three individual skills. It is a finely tuned course to ensure that individual skills are brought up to the level necessary so performers will be much more than simply a singer, or a dancer, or an actor. The course is led by Stephen Helper who recently conceived, devised and directed Soul Music at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre working with the Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts. He also recently directed Syncopation and his production of Fiddler on the Roof for Jerome Robbins was nominated for the Best Revival Tony Award. Smokey Joe's Cafe, which he conceived for Broadway, is among the 30 longest running Broadway musicals of all time and was a hit in the West End, on numerous American National Tours and has been performed on every continent.

About ACTT: Based near Central Station, ACTT is a specialised actor training college running cutting-edge programs for professional stage and screen actors, music theatre performers, stage managers and lighting & sound operators. ACTT runs part-time and full-time courses, evening and weekend classes for everyone from beginner to advanced level, along with an inspiring program for teenagers, called ACTTivate Youth.
