Teachers -song and dance

Hi, everyone. I just had my WAAPA audition, and they said to go to jazz class and get singing lessons for a year and try again (nicely, of course). I'd like to know if anyone knows any good teachers or places go go for singing/jazz lessons. Starving uni student here, so anything comparitively pricey will be out of my range. Also, any tips on how many times a week I should go to lessons, what to look for in a teacher, or anything like that, would be really welcome. I'm not a complete beginner, but have been busy with Yr 12 for the last year, if that helps.

As for singing teachers, if you want WAAPA recommended ones they will give you a contact list if you ask, however, they will be pricey, probably around $60-$70hr as that is the standard rate. I am not sure where you would go for cheaper ones that specialise in Music Theatre/Classical, but someone else on here might be able to recommend some! Good Luck!

...if your goal is WAAPA, then you need to get the right fit with a singing teacher & work with someone who knows what WAAPA are looking for & how to draw that out of you. Yes it will cost you $60-70 an hour. But you'd be far better off working with someone who costs that much less often, who can build the foundation you need, than working more often with someone who does not have the skills and/or experience to do that. Working with an inexperienced or less skilled teacher will be cheaper, but they could also pass on bad habits or technique which will then be very hard to fix & will take you out of the running for WAAPA. Don't be afraid to try as many singing teachers as you need to to find the right fit. And don't go for the false economy of a cheaper teacher. There's a reason they're cheaper!
