Ever wondered how singers make it big on the international opera stage? Your questions will be answered in More Than Opera’s Artist Development presentation on Saturday September 26th from 2 – 5pm at 45 York St Richmond (off Hoddle St near Albert Rd junction) – the HQ of the Dame Nellie Melba Opera Trust. As an exclusive, rare opportunity, MTO is proud to host Samuel Krum - a young Melburnian who, in the space of five years, has made it from opera student at the VCA to heading the London office of a large international agency – Robert Gilder and Associates. Samuel travels to Milan’s La Scala, New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Germany’s Bayreuth opera Festival – and around the corner to Covent Garden Opera House – to look after Robert Gilder artists and he is incessantly scouting for new talent. Having done the hard yards, Samuel is well-placed to give practical tips to MTO’s ‘guinea pigs’ – six lucky professional singers selected by MTO to undertake a ‘mock’ audition. Sam is versatile, eloquent and a fount of operatic knowledge. He was already writing his own opera-cabaret shows whilst training as VCA’s first countertenor opera student up to 2004. In 2007 Samuel went to Europe, developed the language skills initiated at VCA Opera, landed a position as assistant director in Vienna, wrote another show which got him to London, then worked in PR which led to the job of his dreams. *Get a glimpse ‘behind the scenes’ as Sam Krum is interviewed by MTO’s Creative director and international opera conductor David Kram. *Listen to his advice as six specially selected Victorian singers go through their paces. *Mingle afterwards as refreshments are served. *Pay just $30 for this privilege, and get the chance to join the Friends of MTO at a discount. But book early – seating is limited. Entry: $30, or $20 for Friends of MTO. Join up on the spot and pay the lower price. Credit cards accepted. Bookings: MTO office manager Graham Ford Ph: 9682 5002 or 0419 361 487 Email: admin@morethanopera.com Enquiries: MTO Creative Director and General Manager Dr David Kram on 0412 114 725 www.morethanopera.com
