Aida - Verdi vs Elton

Mon, 22 Sept 2008, 02:17 pm
Really looking forward this month to being able to finally see Aida live - both versions!!! The Verdi is one of my favourite operas, and can't wait to see what Graeme Murphy does with it. Was lucky enough to see his production of Berlioz' Les Troyens some 14 odd years ago. The end of the 4th Act is a coup de theatre that will live with me until I die. Elton John's version of the same story is one of my favourite musicals, and I can't wait to see it as well. I think the music is almost as good as the Verdi, but the chracterisations are written far better. Amneris in particular is a much more interesting and wel rounded character in the new version. So, people, here is a rare to chance to see two versions of the same story within weeks of each other... It's like seeing La Boheme and Rant (sorry, Rent) or Madama Butterfly and Miss Saigon Go see both if you can, I certainly am!!!
