Pirates Doing Penance
Wed, 16 July 2008, 01:05 pmPenance for Pirates … the Show Must go on! The G&S Society of WA proudly presents Pirates of Penzance … with a cast of thousands! – well, 49. BUT! It’s loaded with home-grown superstars and talent … plus some bloke from over east.
ABC presenter Ted Bull, has got together with musical maestro Prue Ashurst, to stage everyone’s favourite G&S show. Ted’s directing and Prue’s handling the music … with a full orchestra – the pit at the Playhouse will be crammed!
And there’s more! Dennis Olsen AM, probably Australia’s most respected and renowned G&S performer has agreed to star in the show. Not to be out done, occasional rock star, keyboardist / singer, Dan Bull agreeing to a supporting role. Ted’s allowing his quirky nature to the fore, casting the fairer sex in some of the police roles (“I’m following Karl O'Callaghan’s lead,” says Ted) and even casting a couple of REAL policemen.
It’s easy to overlook our flourishing vibrant amateur theatre scene in the West, not to mention the superb pool of talent in the West, plus the opportunity such productions give to young performers. Ever mindful of the need to help others, the G&S Society is supporting the Asthma Foundation of WA.
This perennially popular show (86 people auditioned for roles!) is on at the Playhouse for four nights, (Thursday 4th – Saturday 7th September) plus two matinees, (Saturday 5th & Sunday 8th September, bookings can be made at BOCS Ph: 9484 1133 or www.bocsticketing.com.au
