Hey there all, just thought I would let this little cat out of the bag and let you know some exciting news about the 2nd Season(March/April) at the Garrick. They are "gasp" doing a musical..-'Godspell'. I can hear the talk now, but the Garrick is too small for a musical, but this one can be done. There will be more news shortly, ie Audition notice etc, so keep your eyes and ears to the forums and audition notices. I am sure to hear from some of you soon Cal

Why is it called "the

Why is it called "the Garrick" and not just "Garrick"? You don't say "the KADS" or "the Blak Yak" or "the Roleystone" do you?

Correction

It is not The Garrick. That be just the way Cal refered to the theatre. It be Garrick Theatre in actuality. "The Garrick" is a bit of a nik-name, but isn't this just a little bit of a picky statement? Does it really matter?

Incidentally, the Garrick Theatre in London is often refered to as The Garrick. Many of the Club members of Garrick Theatre refer to The Garrick. Then you have The Regal, The Playhouse, The Limelight which are also technically incorrect. I am sure there are more.

Right off topic

You're quite right, while the Garrick Theatre in London is often referred to as The Garrick, if a member of the profession in London says "The Garrick" he is actually talking about the Club not the Theatre. Is that all there is? Well if that's all there is my friend, then let's keep dancing. www.tonymoore.id.au

apology

Dear Ponderous One, I must apologise for the apparent faux pas that i made when posting. I was unaware that "the Garrick" was incorrect. Having only recently moved to Perth, this is the way that I have heard people talk about the Garrick Theatre. Once again please forgive my error. Cal "Don't let the Bastards Get you Down"

Nope, I sometimes do

Nope, I sometimes do lighting at "the Garrick" and sometimes at "Playlovers" and sometimes at "the Regal" or "the Playhouse", at "Stirling" , at "the Old Mill" One of life's little mysteries so you are correct in using "the Garrick" Cal as it is a term of endearment. Let us know if you want a hand with the lighting design. Don

"The Garrick" has always

"The Garrick" has always sounded gay to me. "Garrick" seems perfectly adequate.

Getting back to the point .......

Ok, so we've established that know-one cares whether a theatre has 'the' before it or not! Who is directed Godspell and will it be performed at Garrick or another venue?
LabrugWed, 28 Nov 2007, 12:33 pm

Well Said

Well said Katy. I was just getting to that issue. Wasn't this thread about the Garrick Theatre putting on a Musical?  - Yes I believe it will be performed at the Garrick (see, I use variation) but as to the Director, I am not sure. Is that you Cal?

godspell.

yes jeff, it is me. I will be directing my first WA production at the Garrick Theatre. I have been directing in Newcastle for the past 16 years and have recently moved here. I posted a thread about mid june to say that i was moving here and got some very nice responses as to which company was who etc. I have sent Mel a full bio which she is gonna use in the newsletter because no one knows me. I am currently playing the Queen in Marloo's production of Babes in The Wood. Actually Jeff, I was at the committee meeting when you were having one of your final dress rehearsals. Auditions will prob be in about 2-3 weeks. So till then.... Cal "Don't let the bastards get you down"

Oh - that Cal!!

So this is Cal - Operatic Cal? Professional Cal who demanded a private dressing room for her role in Marloo's pantomime? The changng rooms at Garrick are even smaller - hoping they meet with your requirements. GODSPELL - great show .............
calThu, 29 Nov 2007, 06:32 pm

OH YES THAT CAL..............

"Cal who demanded a private dressing room for her role in Marloo's pantomime?" David? Don't know where you get your information, but not once have I ever demanded a private dressing room, whether it be at Marloo or any other theatre that I have worked in. And as far as Professional, i like to think that the work that I produce is as professional as possible. As has been demonstrated by my previous directing experience. Would love to meet you and have a chat though because you apparently know more than I do.

THE Garrick

If i may, I make the comment that as there is only one Garrick Theatre in the Perth area, it would make sense that it is THE Garrick, "Is it THE Garrick theatre?" "Alas, no ma'am, the other one..."
Walter PlingeFri, 30 Nov 2007, 10:34 am

Then you're saying the word

Then you're saying the word "THE" in a completely different context, as if it's an abbreviation of "the one and only?"
Walter PlingeFri, 30 Nov 2007, 12:53 pm

Back from OS

Vicki - are you back from Germany?!! xo
LabrugFri, 30 Nov 2007, 12:56 pm

She Be Back Indeed

She certainly is. I found out a little while back when my daughter and wife found her working back in her old (?) job. She obviously couldn't stay away.

Hope to see you treading the boards Vicky, soon.
