RaveWed, 10 Jan 2007, 09:33 am Like someone mentioned in another post. I am interested, if WAAPA select 18 for their BA, do they have a time limit to accept their position. Like the 16th jan is for BAPA, is there a date for WAAPA
Do waapa have backup positions to make up the 18 or if someone doesnt accept do they just take 17 or 15 whatever amount accepts.
As far as I know they dont
As far as I know they dont replace, unless someone can tell me otherwise
Walter PlingeWed, 10 Jan 2007, 07:32 pm
If someone pulls out they
If someone pulls out they offer the position to the next person they feel is appropriate. Already been done this yr at least twice! Happens most yrs! There isnt a final acceptance date but most ppl have accepted now!!
Walter PlingeWed, 10 Jan 2007, 10:30 pm
Most coursesi at WAAPA have
Most courses at WAAPA have a week to either accept or reject an offer of place. I am assuming that this is the same for MT. If students choose to reject an offer, the place is offered to the next person on the reserve list. I know this because I was on the reserve list. You don't know if you are on the reserve list unless someone pulls out. WAAPA is a business and doesn't have time to waste on students who are indescisive or slow to accept. NIDA offers places to students on the reserve list right up until the end of the second week (at least they used to) so no places go to waste.
Walter PlingeThu, 11 Jan 2007, 06:51 am
No your right Janine but
No your right Janine but thats only if they drop out once the course has started, they dont then replace and I know that for a fact.
Not everyone has accepted, and this person wont be accepting as they have a better offer. So lucky for the next reserve.
Walter PlingeThu, 11 Jan 2007, 01:51 pm
Confirmed
They don't replace you if you have begun study... in some cases that person can defer... but generally that class becomes one short for the rest of their time there...
Walter PlingeThu, 11 Jan 2007, 03:08 pm
What happens if you got a
What happens if you got a spot and accepted it, then you got offered something else thats better, can you then defer it for a year or so, and if the other doesnt work out come back to WAAPA????
Walter PlingeThu, 11 Jan 2007, 03:14 pm
I get really peed off, when
I get really peed off, when I busted my guts to get a spot, got a call back, but didnt get in. I wanted it so so bad.
Then you have these others who get accepted then decide at the last minute, they either dont wont to move interstate or cant be bothered doing it now or something else popped up.
What a waste of time!! Why stuff everyone around like WAAPA admin and other potentials.

How old are you, Have you
How old are you, Have you checked with admin. Who are they letting into the course anyway. This is truely sad
Walter PlingeThu, 11 Jan 2007, 10:01 pm
No if you reject an offer
No if you reject an offer that's it.
If you get offered let's say MT at WAAPA and you accept it and then a week later you get an offer from Ballarat and you really really want to go there instead, you can call up WAAPA and say acctually I changed my mind I got offered something I want more. They can't force you to go anywhere. Sure it's a pain in the arse for them but it pretty much happens all the time. This year one student got an offer for both MT and Acting at WAAPA and had to make a choice. He choose MT and the Acting spot went to the next person on the reserve list.
Oh and as for the comment about being pissed off about people who get in and seem to have no reason to accept so they don't. i tried really hard to get in to MT cert at WAAPA and when I finally did there were girls in there who were so lazy and self centred and not willing to do any work that it really frustrated me. They just don't seem to see what a priveledge it is to be accepted cause they got in too easy. Whereas I was busting my arse to use my time wisely.
In the end you only have yourself. so when you get please use your time wisely and work hard.
Walter PlingeFri, 12 Jan 2007, 05:50 am
I busted my arse too in the
I busted my arse too in the cert course but unfortunately didnt get in the BA. It is upsetting when thats all you want to do and your primary focus. I know its hard for some to understand how those accepted into the BA decide not to take there places. But thats life. I wish I was a reserve.
Plus knowing the talent from the certie course that missed out is unbelievable but the panel knows what they want and you just try again at the end of the year. Its all about perserverence and having a thick skin and believing in yourself.
I am still in limbo waiting to see if I got into places. My friend in the 2006 WAAPA certie also didnt get into the 2007 BA at WAAPA yet got offers in two of the top London MT schools who feed the West End. Go figure.
Walter PlingeFri, 12 Jan 2007, 05:56 am
Im 17 thank you. Plus admin
Im 17 thank you. Plus admin havent been there cos of Xmas break. Who are you to say who are they letting in. Apparently there are a number of 17 and 18 year olds this year. Maybe they think the older ones are too set in their ways lol and are chosing fresh blood. Maybe your upset cos I got in and you didnt.
Ahhh well
Walter PlingeFri, 12 Jan 2007, 08:40 am
Yes well you only need one
Yes well you only need one guess to know who that is.
Walter PlingeFri, 12 Jan 2007, 09:14 am
remember not all the WAAPA
remember not all the WAAPA grads MAKE IT!!!! so dont be so cock sure of yourself. Your immaturity may get you nowhere when you graduate at 20.
Yes what are WAAPA thinking, OMG
I actually think it's
I actually think it's pretty cruel that WAAPA allows you to bust your guts in the certificate course. Letting you have a taste of WAAPA life for a year only to be turned down for the BA. When you have a taste, you really want the whole cake. Unfortunately in this cut throat business, there is a lot of talent out there. Lots of performing arts schools nationally and internationally. I don't think anyone should be too hard on themselves...
Walter PlingeFri, 12 Jan 2007, 09:53 am
Totally agree. WAAPA can
Totally agree. WAAPA can see those in the certie who put in the hard yards, they may not be perfect but have potential and the guts to give it their all, they also know who the slackers are.
Its mean

RaveSun, 14 Jan 2007, 09:26 am Sorry to disappoint but
Sorry to disappoint but Waapa MT BA intake 2007 ISNT confirmed yet cos last night my waapa friend said a new first year has just found out (late last week) she got into Phantom and has to tell waapa she isnt taking her place.
Not all places are confirmed and some still may drop out, they have until the start day, even if they have accepted. Something like this fantastic opportunity may come along and congrates to this girl or illness or anything so its never over till the fat lady sings.
Therefore there is still a chance for reserve people.
Goodluck to all of you who have accepted places, yes 2007 will be a good year
Apparently there are a
Apparently there are a couple recently who had accepted but will not take their place now, it happens all the time in this industry
Walter PlingeMon, 15 Jan 2007, 07:18 am

Thanks guys, I am on the reserve list which means I still have a chance. I thought it was all over for me for this year but my waapa friend also told me the same thing. Some may find out this week if they have got a place in the BA course.
Fingers Xrossed
Walter PlingeMon, 15 Jan 2007, 07:24 am
Goodluck to the reserves,
Goodluck to the reserves, word has spread that a few have declining their previous acceptances.
We did hear that the young girl was offered a place in Phantom of the Opera. Another female from Sydney cant make the move now either. Amazing how word travels so fast.
Walter PlingeMon, 15 Jan 2007, 12:26 pm
is it true you cant work
is it true you cant work for the first two years of the Bachelor, even like retail??
Walter PlingeMon, 15 Jan 2007, 01:17 pm
Of course you can work
Of course you can work retail on weekends if you can fit it in with study however, doing any performance anywhere or with anyone else other than waapa is a no no
NaMon, 15 Jan 2007, 02:18 pm Most people agree that
Most people agree that doing a course full-time, as well as outside performances are impossible. You will find yourself tired, putting in half-hearted (or at least exhausted) performances, and your lecturers will be concerned.
Outside work, like retail or admin, 'normal' work, is ok, but be aware that a heavy work timetable might clash with your course, when it comes to production seasons.
I did a show outside of uni once, and regretted it - it was too much.

You can do whatever you
You can do whatever you want in your spare time....this is a learning institution...NOT a jail!!!
Walter PlingeTue, 16 Jan 2007, 03:17 pm
If you can cope with a
If you can cope with a retail job or any other job plus studying and perform at waapa go for it. Nothing and no one is stopping you, do what you like, if you dare put your self through that and hey some ppl may be able to.
NO ONE SAID ITS A JAIL but waapa do strongly stipulate you cannot perform outside of the course, Number 1 rule. You dont like it dont go.
These discussions involving
These discussions involving WAAPA repeat themselves every few months. They are growing rather tiresome. There are many other alternatives then doing a certific at Edith Cowan university. Other insitutions offer similar courses, even outside organisations. My advice is to get out in the real world - to replicate life you must first know how to live it. Secondly, just get out an audition. Plays, Short films, whatever. Having the mentality that WAAPA will make or break your acting career is sheer stupidity.
Walter PlingeTue, 16 Jan 2007, 04:06 pm
Yes daniel there might be
Yes daniel there might be other institutions but some have their heart set on waapa and there is nothing that will change their mind. Also many want to find out info on waapa hence the questions and repeat of questions. Many want to find out the inside stuff that is omitted in the waapa website. Leave the curious to have their say and their own thread, its informative to them but may not be to others. thats the way it goes
NaTue, 16 Jan 2007, 04:11 pm I repeat this every now and
I repeat this every now and then - there aren't just the 'trinity' of performing arts courses. There are plenty of other uni's, and many TAFEs around Australia offer a variation of a nation-wide Diploma of Arts (the names of the courses vary as well, but it is a performance arts Dip).
These uni and TAFE courses provide a good first step to the other 'better' courses, and many people who complete one of these uni/TAFE courses get accepted into one of the 'trinity'.
WAAPA is not the be all and end all.

WAAPA people
Hey Menthol, Barp Barp Barp you still out there?
This is so funny i thought this sight had shut down - Hey what ever happened to Sandy D, that really talented girl who just wanted to perform?
Last i heard she was doing really well for herself - she put on her own Cabaret it was a Sondheim tribute show - boy can that girl work the text baby - and talk about playing against. My favorite song she sung was the Act 1 finale from "A little Night Music", if only DK was there to see it - she somehow sung every part herself.
I hear she's taking it to New York with WAAPA's 3rd years when they take there show over there for the 2007 New York Music Theatre Festival
Bring back SANDY D!
Walter PlingeMon, 22 Jan 2007, 02:35 am
HeyWe're still out
Hey
We're still out here.....although Barp Barp Barp appears not to be the Barp Barp Barp we would assume....there is another...perhaps someone else that has trained at SAPA???
SALLY D has been fast tracked straight to 3rd yr and will be taking over the role of Edith (pron. Ed-ith) for the New York season!
Hope all is well with those enquiring on our where-abouts!
Time to go skirmishing...will speak soon

From the South Australian
From the South Australian grape vine it appears that one of our own, a 17year old female, who was accepted into the Qld Con and WAAPA MT BA has only just received notification of her acceptance into Phantom.
Phantom rehearsals begin in a month. Therefore she has only just declined both positions very very recently and taken the Phantom part.
She has bypassed the formalities and once she is known from her musical experience she should have no trouble getting further work.

Hey Madge your comment or
Hey Madge your comment or gossip wasnt posted 2 1/2 weeks ago it might be old news for you and your grapevine but new to some that are only just reading this thread.
I know the girl personally and know it was less that that. But who cares about when she did it or if she did it. or if it was old news.
Last years grads are going to New York not just one. And one cert kid got 2 offers in London.
