Hi all, Was just wondering what everyone's opinions are on what is approipriate for me (female) to wear for my WAAPA (Music Theatre) audition? Also, should I avoid overdone hair and makeup at all costs? Even if your opinion is uninformed...your two cents are welcome :) Thanks! P.S. Sorry about the trivial questions, but I just couldn't get my head around this one :S

heya! well they suggest

heya! well they suggest hardly any make up so definately DO NOT overdo your make up or hair, i dont think they would like that at all. Also the dress is smart casual, so dont rock up in formal wear like i know some people have done in the past... They want to see a breif outline of your body, so go for jeans and a nice top or something along those lines, also do not opt for low cut shirts with your boobs hanging out on display, they absolutely hate that. they want to get to know you as a person and see your raw talent without all the makeup and hair.. because their will always be time for that later!! This is what i was hold by David King (head of music thetare at WAAPA) at an audition masterclass. Hope this helps :)

Comfortable clothing

isnt there an outline for this adution...most of the time auditions for performance is to be in comfortable clothing. not sure but for most acting auditions it is outlined saying you need to be in flexiable clothing. So if the audition requires dance and high level of physical movements its best to go comfortable. Wear stuff that you can move in and be able to sing your best. So comfortable and casual hope that helps.. nelz.

for acting they say wear

for acting they say wear clothes you can moove freely in, however for music theatre auditions the first audition is singing/ acting so they suggest that you just wear something casual but nice and plain because if you wear something with alot of patterns on it or something really eye catching it will take away from your performance. Dont wear dancing clothes to music theatre auditions as the dancing call backs are on a seperate day.

what clothes

Casual, smart but comfortable. If that makes sense. I wouldnt do jeans and a sloppy t shirt. Dance audition is later dont ever wear dance gear. Hair should be neat and wear natural makeup One girl last year was dressed like she was going to a cocktail evening, full on makeup hair and sequined dress lol. Think about your monolgue and or songs you have selected and dress appropriately for them. If you do part of your monologue on the floor or chair, dont wear a short skirt.

WAAPA

The whole idea in the audition is to present yourself as well as you can, and give them a way to get to know you. So go in a way that you feel comfortable, you look good, and you can do everything that you are planning on doing in your scene and song. If you look attractive and comfortable it will also make them feel comfortable watching you, which is a big part of a successful audition. As for "overdone" hair and make up. Why would you ever over do your hair and makeup... again, go with something that will make you feel attractive and comfortable. Hope this helps

Thanks!

Thanks for the comments, they've all been very helpful. I have a good idea of what to wear now...I look good in green hehe so I'll look out for a green top. About the girl in the sequined dress...god she's a confident one :P Oh so they have a chair you can use for your audition? Becuase I was wondering about that, too. Wouldn't be very good if they didn't :S
