Jesus Christ Superstar
Sat, 1 June 2013, 07:23 amI don't believe I'm getting a review in before Gordon...
Just a quick review about JCS - It was a spectacular show (what I would do to get some of the lighting equipment...) and certainly lived up to what I had expected. This was my first time at the Perth Arena, and I have to say well done on the Labor Government (for starting the project).
However, like a lot of musicals lately, the band are too loud and often drowned out the vocals of the singers. JCS wasn't as bad as Wicked, where you couldn't hear the chorus at all, but still a bit too much. I'm sure all the sound techs must be deaf & don't realise that we 'ordinary' punters would like to be able to HEAR the singers.
Stand outs were Tim Minchin (of course), Jon Stevens & Andrew O'Keefe (who stole the show as King Herod). I wasn't greatly impressed with Ben Forste (J) - not sure if his mic was too close, but it was hard to hear his diction at times. Chorus & backstage crew were perfect - scene changes were faultless. It was a good night out & good to see lots of people using public transport. too.
Ciao

well done Rob
I hadn't any plans to see it - it hasn't the quality of the Harbour (sorry missed your last one) or Old Mill.
Jesus (Ben) has the same accent as myself - Sunderland - perhaps I am born again.
