Legal and good for the body! That's Lawyers and Other Communicable Disease which is currently on stage at the Subiaco Theatre Centre until 29 September. It is a new musical that takes the mickey out of the legal eagles and gives the audience a great insight into courtroom politics as they laugh along the way. Presented by a new group to the Perth Community Theatre scene, Showroom Theatre Inc, this show decended on Perth like a bolt of lightning and was professional through and through. Rarely on the first night have we seen a non professional cast who had it all together and were most comfortable in their roles. There was a live jazz band on stage playing original songs which were written by Musical Director John McPherson. There were the dancing boys and girls decked out in great costumes. Choreographer and actress Jessica Dunn has an Irish background and her immense talents were evident - all the cast had the smiles in their eyes as they performed their routines confidently. The set was excellent too thanks to really great work of loyal family and friends. The storyline will interest those that follow the courts and trials and the legal system. A socialite is accused of murder and nobody believes her innocence but lawyers Solicitt and Steele (great performances) face ruin unless they can can get a win in this trial. Writer James Marzec, who is an lawyer-in-training, also stars as an Austrian barrister whose courtroom antics are nasty and mean. The audience, young and old, really enjoyed this show. Here is a theatre group we want to see do more theatre productions.
