Elendar Productions 'A Gigantic F&*# To You All'
Wed, 14 Dec 2011, 11:17 pmI'll admit I had to drag myself out to see this, put off by the concept and by a general dislike of absurdism. But as I knew two of the actors involved I put in an appearance...well.
I'm very, very, very glad I did.
Elandar productions is fairly new on the scene, I gather this is only their second production. However Iskandar Shazruddin (Director/writer/performer), Elliot Cook (Writer/director?/performer) have something to be very proud of.
It is well worth getting out to see even if only to enjoy the sheer cheek of it all. I felt like I was watching a trapeze act, caught between excitement, wonder and the thrill that it could all just fall in on itself. But this 'a little bit of nothing a whole lot of not anything in particular' holds up surprisingly well.
Everyone was sensational in this production, even the stage hands. It was a tight, hilarious and committed performance and I sat enthralled with a smile on my face through the whole thing. Plenty to laugh at and with, in this clever, cocky and self-depreciating show.
Highlights for me, included the construction of the third skit, all of the first skit 'Jury Duty' and the creepy chemistry between Elliot Cook and Renae O'Neill. Oh, and to misquote Michael J Fox, 'watch out for the changes.' Nothing about this production is boring.
(Note: due to nepotism I have not named or pointed out the aforementioned 'actors' whose relationship to me caused my attendance. Not because they weren't any good.BC and VG were sensational as always, but I am biased so somebody else can point out their splendor)
