Student Shenanigans
Sat, 13 Aug 2011, 11:28 am‘Student Shenanigans’ is a 120-minute Student Variety Show for adults; it is yours for an amazingly low $5 at the door. Presented in the Drama Workshop and rehearsal studios, Murdoch University, South Street, Murdoch. The nearest near car park is number 4. Look for the large red doors. There are only two shows, the 12th and 13th August. Curtain up at 7.30 pm.
The audience is welcomed with the very funny, dry humour of the hirsute and cuddly host Stephen B. Platt. The first Act starts with Britain’s answer to Sir Les Patterson, we gave them him, they have sent back a much more frightening Queenie Jizzhome (Tom Chisholm). This foul mouthed lady tells us how she has arrived in Australia to spread culture – the culture in a Petrie dish would die on meeting this brassy blonde in the leopard skin dress. Watch, cringe, gasp and laugh!
Christie Leary-Strauss performed her first sensual belly dance. Easily the best belly dancing that I have seen, and stunning costumes.
When a wife (Tiffany Swan) complains to her husband (Jackson Wimhurst) who spends hours playing computer games that the dishes need to be cleaned, she can expect the worst, after all dishwashing is a woman’s job!
Ever wondered what happens when the ABC news finishes? Does the newsreader simply walk away? Andrew Hanning shows the action packed gyrations that actually take place.
Have you ever stood at a stage door waiting for an opportunity? Bethsaida Tapsall has, and her very well written account was a classic piece from the heart.
The police have Chopper Reed (Dean Lovatt) in for questioning; we see the interview from his point of view.
Act One finishes with the sad tale of a very nervous, but highly talented tap dancer (Ellin Sears) who is waiting along with 200 other for a chance to do her hoofing.
Act Two commences with an extremely funny twenty minute murder mystery in the style of Philip Marlowe. Someone has murdered Lazarus Stone, the detective’s brother. Could the murderer be the slinky dressed sex kitten, the detective’s apprentice or Bob the big busted ‘male’? The genre was well carried out and the script hilarious.
The cast were Andrew Dawson, Abbey McCaughan, Anthony K J Smith and Kate Willoughby.
Then Ingrid Vost gave a very funny explanation why she had to kill her Dad and hang him up in the closet.
A typical student fun night, 2 hours of good entertainment at a bargain price. Directed by Katrina Johnston and teched by Sarah Courtis, Lancelot Ronjan and Kate Logan-Scales.
This Fundraiser has been arranged by the Murdoch University students to help raise funds for Christie Strauss's honour’s filming project in Egypt.
