My partner and I had the privilege of seeing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Limelight Theatre on Wednesday night. Neither of us had seen the show before and we certainly weren’t disappointed from this production. Director Bob Mainwaring and team have done a fabulous job putting this show together. We loved everything about it. The costumes looked terrific. They were very colourful and sparkling. If the theatre did not already own these costumes, then a lot of work has been put in to make them and it was worth it. The band was terrific. Congratulations to Belinda Flindell and her team of musicians for making the show sound great. There are some great songs in the show and some talented singers, none of which could have been made possible without the band. Congratulations again. As for the cast, the two leads of Joseph and the Narrator were played by two young actors, Ian Griffin and Lisa Baltovich. Ian looked the part from the moment he walked on stage and sang beautifully. Lisa must have been the understudy as she was not listed as the Narrator in the programme. But there were no problems with her at all. She did a fantastic job and like Ian, sang every song beautifully. We look forward to seeing both these actors on stage again soon. The chorus were also fantastic. Everyone looked like they were having a fun time, including the children who sadly weren’t on stage as often as the older chorus members, but overall the entire chorus sung and danced well. Some strong performances in the supporting roles by David Nelson as Potiphar and Dale Barnard as the Pharaoh also stood out. Several other cast members had solo performances too and they were terrific as well. Overall, a fine production by the Limelight Theatre. Book tickets if you can before it sells out. We look forward to the next Limelight production.
