‘Flirt Fiction’ is another in the Blue Room series of Summer Nights. WA’s Queen of Sensuality, Jessica Craig-Piper, wrote this Red Rabbit Collective presentation. The Simone Ruggiero hour long production will be repeated at 53 James Street, Northbridge on Friday 11th February at 7.00pm.

Henry (Lawrence Ashford) explains that eroticism is very much in the eye of the beholder. Sexual arousal can be created by a mere twinkle in the eye or graphic exchange of bodily fluids.

Writer Henry meets his friend and literary competition, Ana (Kathryn Delaney), in a local café. As they discuss their writings a very competitive atmosphere arises and they decide to see who can write the most sexually arousing article.

As the waitress (Zoë Cooper) serves Ana a cup of coffee, with that little extra, the writers imagine her as their central character trying different types of erotic situations.

The name Red Rabbit (after the toy?) gives a hint as to the content of this adult play. Jessica’s writing is not only very sexy but beautifully written, with much of Ana’s dialogue having a rich poetic structure. Zoë’s description of her walk in the woods even managed to get an aging man excited. Definitely Dwellingup for my holidays this year.
This is the team that brought us ‘Jack and Jill’, one of last year’s most popular plays at the Blue Room, again the acting is excellent. The dim, but carefully chosen, lighting by Stephen Warren (operated by Emily Stokoe) when combined with the raw and pounding music from The Men from Another Place gives the final touch to the vibrant and exhilarating sexual atmosphere. Not so much of a story, rather a collection of love situations and affairs. Original and fun.

I am sure this will do very well when it goes to the Edinburgh Festival later this year.
