‘Baggage’, written by Milo Bell, was chosen to be one of the Blue Room’s new script readings. This series is at The Blue Room, James Street, Northbridge each Monday night at the earlier time of 6.00pm.
This play was two hours long and yet only cost a ‘gold coin’ donation.

In the 5-star Palace Hotel the concierge, Trevor (Benj D’Addario) is answering the many guests’ enquiries. The new trainee porter (Michael Drysdale) is enthralled by the hundreds of girls who have arrived for a talent competition audition, being run by world famous talent scout and producer, Ben (Stuart Halusz). One of the young ladies (Arielle Gray) is totally star struck and seems desperate to get to the final audition. The elderly doorman (Bernie Davis) is finding the cold weather and all of the excitement a little bit too much.

There was a full house, of many of Perth’s best actors, there to see how their good friend, Blue Room barman, Milo’s script would fare. This two-hour play was a blend of several good story threads, the script was well edited and the construction of the story well thought-out. There were some very funny moments along with some interesting anecdotes.

Although this was purely a reading – not a moved reading – with the actors seated, the talented cast did Milo proud, showing how capably the characters had been developed. The dialogue was natural and flowed beautifully. The actors were directed – or guided – by Emily McLean.

The enthusiastic response from the audience showed that Milo should take this play further.
