Barefaced
Fri, 4 Feb 2011, 10:16 am‘Barefaced’ is the brainchild of producers and co-creators Andrea Gibbs and Kerry O'Sullivan. The series of two-hour performances is showing at The Blue Room Theatre main theatre, 53 James Street, Northbridge every Thursday in February - 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th. The shows commence at 8.30pm.
For years now Andrea and Kerry have been part of acclaimed teams performing improvisational humour and stand-up comedy. Here, they have created something new to Perth, which I am sure will become a regular Festival item, true stories told by the people who have experienced the events.
Unlike ‘Solospot’ which is showing twice a week, this is not solely comedy performed by trained stand-up, comics, these eight raconteurs tell their tales from the heart. Some are extremely funny, others sad but told with love.
Celebrated New York storyteller, Margot Leitman, has taken these raw recruits at story-telling and taught them the skills of delivering their sagas and yarns. You will recognise many of the names on this week’s list, some are extremely well-known actors with years of experience behind them, and yet the ability to deliver their anecdotes was to be a new and frightening experience.
Last night’s team were:-
Rory McGoldrick telling us of his romantic Valentine’s night meal.
Shirley Van Sanden about the neighbour from hell and her Masterchef experience.
Janelle Koenig recalls her proudest teenage garment.
Sean Walsh warns why you should avoid giving your house keys to anyone.
Sarah Reuben brought a tear to the eye with a beautiful story of her Granddad.
Jamie Breen on how to avoid internet romances.
Sarah Knight told us of her experience down the beach, the audience laughed noddingly – been there, done that!
I related strongly to three or four of these stories, has someone been stalking me?
A wonderful night’s entertainment, tremendous variety of topics all skilfully told thanks to Margot’s training. Try and catch the rest of the series when a new team will perform each week, but be quick as the shows are selling out.
