Richard III By William Shakespeare Directed by Tom McSweeny Presented by Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble Amphitheatre, Roma Street Parklands, Brisbane Shakespeare typically makes me a little restless because the text is so deep and stories so elaborate. It’s just the extent of my squirming that varies. QSE’s Richard III was fatefully on the greater end of the scale with its lengthy timeframe and erratic entertainment level. But that aside, there were some passionate performances that impressed with their delivery of the language. Performed in the Roma Street Parklands amphitheatre, it’s hard to go wrong with the atmosphere. Luckily the rain stayed away and it was a warm, comfortable night to be outdoors. There were the occasional traffic interruptions and noisy neighbours, but the QSE cast always deals with these well and the distractions were mild... By Kellie Scott.
