The Chairs By Eugene Ionesco Directed by Brian Lucas Presented by La Boite Theatre Roundhouse Theatre, Kelvin Grove, Brisbane It’s weird, it’s wacky, it’s sometimes funny – but essentially The Chairs is complete confusion that left me feeling disappointed. I was lost for words at the end of this 80-minute play, which I don’t think was a good thing. An obscure piece like this should leave its audience pondering for hours and discussing with their partner, “What was it about?” But instead I just didn’t even know where to begin. Written in the mid 20th century, director Brian Lucas says it “reflects the existential bleakness of the times but also radiates a sense of delicate optimism”... Review by Kellie Scott.
