It's on - it's off

‘It's on - It's off’ is a very funny, well constructed comedy by Ray Lawrence. Showing at the Koorliny Arts Centre, 22 Sulphur Road, Kwinana nightly at 8.00 pm until 19th June. With a matinee at 2.00 pm on Sunday 13th June.
I arrived last night at Rockingham Theatre to find not only was it fully booked, but also without any power. Total blackness 5 minutes before curtain up. We decided to try nearby Kwinana and were most impressed. The venue now has new tiering system with plenty of leg room, and important to a Scots born, the tickets were a sensible price.
In their UK home, Daphne Humphreys (Judy St Clair) is lecturing her disinterested, but tolerant husband Gerald (Shane St Clair) about how much work has gone into the planning of their daughter’s wedding that is to be held in two days time. The phone rings. It is their young son, Robert (Christopher Tierney) calling from ‘custody’. He has had a fight with his wife, who belted him on the head – but why is he in custody? Has he killed his wife in revenge?
The distressed parents had hardly put the phone down, when their distraught, mummy’s-girl, daughter Tina (Kat Duynstee) bursts through the front door declaring that ‘the wedding is off!’ But it can’t be, her future in-laws are on their way from Australia for their son, Trevor’s big day.
Tina concludes that the perfect wedding day that she has dreamed of all of her life is on the verge of collapse. OK, the wedding must go ahead!
Her mother-in-law to be, Angela (Jessica Hinchliffe) arrives from the airport in time for dinner. Just as things are starting to stabilise, Monica (Jessica Hinchliffe), a ‘big busted tart’ arrives looking for the man of her dreams – Trevor – yes, the same Trevor that is getting married to Tina in a few hours time.
Will the marriage ever go ahead, or will further legal complications stop the event.
Brilliantly directed By Adam Salathiel, this team worked very well together, the pace – cleverly set by Judy – kept the fun flowing. The script was a laugh a minute. The cast captured their characters very well.
Very good set with excellent furnishings, well designed lighting and competent tech operation.
If Rockingham is fully booked, go to this venue – only 30 minutes from Perth - and have a great laugh.
sorry Shelley
