A History of Drinking
Thu, 17 Sept 2009, 07:59 am‘Jeffrey Jay Fowler's - a history of drinking’ created and performed by Jeffrey Jay Fowler, Winner (2007) of the Blue Room Member's Choice Award, Mythophobic Productions also won the 2008 Blue Room Best Production Award.
‘A history of drinking’ is part of the 2009 Pride Festival Theatre Programme. It is being staged in the Blue Room Studio, 53 James Street, Northbridge until 3rd October 2009, all shows 8.30 pm. There may be an extra couple of shows show put on, but otherwise the whole season has been sold out in advance (wow!), and so you will need to put your name on the cancellation list. JJF will attend private functions with this act, which would be a great attraction for an older person’s ‘notable’ birthday.
Because of the humour and alcoholic drink included in your ticket price, this show is for adults only.
You are then led into a cosy and salubrious cocktail lounge, stepping over the host (Jeffery Jay Fowler) who is blotto from the night before. Settling down at your table, the drinks list has a selection of almost three dozen cocktails and soft drinks from which to choose.
After a couple of short stories and sections of prose, your host – now sobered and hyped up, entertains the guests. Then a lethargic, disinterested waiter asks which drink you want, before calling on the talented cocktail master to prepare it. As the drink is skilfully prepared, a running commentary on the technique and the production of the quality ingredients is delivered without a flaw. It was explained to me why my drink was the most anti-social and environmentally destructive drink on the planet – but thanks, it was perfect.
The stories are a blend of humour, sadness and tragedy. The facts delivered, even for a trivia buff like myself, are fascinating. This wonderful concept gave a MOST enjoyable, laid-back night in the hands of a master.
