Unattainable

‘Unattainable’ is a satirical play written and directed by Jessica Messenger. Presented by Arena Entertainment, this play has one more night, Friday 11^th September at 8.00 pm, and is showing at the Subiaco Studio, Subiaco Arts Centre just before ‘Trainspotting’. It was first performed for Pocket Theatre in North Fremantle, a couple of months ago.

         A frumpy, thoroughly disorganised, Bridget Jones-type girl, Zoë (Sinead Bevan) spends most of her life looking at magazines such as Cosmopolitan, admiring the beauty and grace of the stars shown within. Then into her life come Ed (Adam Shuttleworth) and Vanessa (Tamiah Bantum), a couple of smarmy, makeover experts. Complete with their fixed, insincere grins, the couple set out to change Zoë. They start by totally draining her self-confidence, and work downwards. Will the sycophants succeed? Will Zoë be a happier person as a result? Will she ever find true love?

Well written dialogue from Jess Messenger, with extremely funny delivery by the cast. Adam and Tamiah were completely nauseating, and yet so very similar to many of the slimy TV sales persons, who will happily sell anyone anything.
Yet again, a group of a dozen audience members were shown across the performance area, and into their seats, 20 minutes into this 40-minute play. Congratulations to the cast who never flickered or lost pace. Great teamwork.
A fresh and original play, which had its sad points and yet plenty of humour. Most enjoyable.
