If in Sydney see A) Elling & B) Chicago
Fri, 3 July 2009, 03:27 pmWe had the pleasure of seeing two excellent shows in Sydney last weekend. If you live there or going there for business/hols. go and see them!!
*Chicago*
Saw this production in London in December and was really disappointed, HOWEVER, this Sydney production was Brilliant!
Caroline O'Connor (Velma) was her normal fantastic self but was blown away by Sharon Millerchip (Roxie) - outstanding! Gina Riley (Mama) was a pleasant surprise (wonderful voice) - only disappointed was Craig McLachlan (Billy) but covered by the females. I hope this production comes to Perth.
*Elling*
Presented by Sydney Theatre Company. With Darren Gilshenan, Glenn Hazeldine, Lachy Hulme, Yael Stone, Frank Whitten.
SOME OF THE BEST THEATRE I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS!!! BLOODY BRILLIANT! After two years of sharing a room in a mental institution Elling (Darren Gilshenan) and Kjell (Lachy Hulme) are allowed out, back into society. It’s not that they’re dangerous, they’re just a little… hopeless.Elling is too smart. Too sensitive. Too… Elling. And Kjell? Well, Kjell has a plan, a dream, a great ambition. He wants to lose his virginity. Preferably today.Even the hardest heart will struggle not to be touched by the characters’ plight and the joy with which they discover the richness of life in the ‘real’ world. Please come to Perth!!!
Always great to see some refreshing & inspiring theatre.
If you get the opportunity SEE THEM!

Agreed!
I missed out on Elling - hopefully I can see it in Newcastle before it finishes up but Chicago was brilliant. I absolutely loved it. I would also highly recommend seeing STC's Poor Boy and The City. Both were fantastic. I can't wait for "Once And For All We're Gonna Tell You Who We Are So Shut Up and Listen". Oh, I love STC!
