As a newcomer to Perth I thought I would take myself off to WAAPA to see this drama school I had heard so much about. What a revelation. Do you people in Perth realise what an amazing facility you have here? In the Roundhouse Theatre I saw 3rd year acting students in "Inishmore". The progam notes say "Not for the faint-hearted" and that's right but this play is so very clever and funny. Beyond the blood and gore is satire at it's best, the message that all the killing and violence counts for nothing. The ending is a hoot, won't give it away but very clever and to the point. As 3rd year acting students you would expect to get good performances and I was not disappointed. The Irish accents, which can be a trap, I got every word. In fact one of the actors, Matt Levett, is a dead spit for someone I know who is Belfast born and bred, looks, voice the lot. Production values very high, excellent props- I'll say no more. The performance I saw, ( Sat matinee) was not very well attended. Come on Perth people come to YOUR academy as see this show, closes this Thursday 18 June. 4 stars from me!!
