‘The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik; Deep Sea Explorer,’ a World premier created by Tim Watts, with assistance from Arielle Gray. This play has been selected to be performed at the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival in August. This Weeping Spoon Production is showing at The Blue Room Studio until the 30th May. All shows at 6.30 pm.

In a dimly lit room, we witness Alvin Sputnik at his dying wife’s side. Then, left alone in an ecologically unstable world, Alvin decides to see if there really is a paradise left on Earth. Scientists have unsuccessfully tried everything to save the planet, now it is up to Alvin Sputnik to save mankind.  Spes durat avorum.

An animation or puppet show does not normally get adults too excited, but when it is blended with live human action and quality music, ranging from classical orchestral pieces to a live strum of a ukulele, then the interest level increases. Blend in a charismatic script, superb lighting, very clever visual effects and hilarious gadgets, and then you have a brilliant, unique performance.

In this 45-minute show, you see the human Alvin turn into a deep-sea diver. He really swims! Then, using inspired sock and glove puppets, he plumbs the depths making some truly entertaining discoveries.

Every aspect of the show is created and operated by Tim Watts. Yes, he simultaneously operates the lighting, sound, visuals, presents the dialogue as well as operating the puppets, without even the slightest flicker. An ingenious, touching and highly entertaining production. It is a ‘go home with a BIG smile on your face’ show.

A Wonderful Show!

The Adventures of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer Created by Tim Watts and Arielle Gray, featuring Tim Watts CONGRATULATIONS! Massive hats off Tim - bloody brilliant production - you deserve all the publicity, support and praise you can get. I saw this show tonight with a friend and we both agreed it was wonderful. It had everything: a) Music b) A good story c) Great effects d) Well performed e) A cute whale f) A thought provoking moral Getting caught up with the dark and grey of life you sometimes forget the brighter side or the thing we give up on so easily as kids - imagination. This certainly awakens all the senses and as Gordon states you do go home with a smile on your dial! This is the last week (finishes 30th) strongly recommend going to see it - if tickets still available? Congratulations again Tim and team - Bloody Marvelous! PC
