‘We love each other so much’ by writer unknown,. This production by Theatre Del Brujo, was showing at the Murdoch University drama workspace. There were four performances ending on 11th December.

Three 13-year-old girls are the very best of pals, going to each other’s houses for sleepovers, discussing their secret loves. As they grow up their lives change, the main schism coming when Matilda (Katrina Johnston) goes to live in Paris and work in an art college. Sylv (Kate Branson) on the other hand is quite happy to stay at home and let the American sailors come to her!
When all three are in town, they would still meet up for a meal and it was at one such meeting that Sarah (Kate Christianopoulos) told them of her personal tragedy.

This play had some very well observed characterisation and mannerisms. It had humour (the purple rabbit) and then was heartrending in other parts. The quality writing covered the range from general chitchat to an almost Shakespearean rhyming couplet. The direction of Jaime Wilson was inventive, from a couple of strictly controlled monologues to several Mike Leigh style passage of ad-libbing. The cast responded most capably. The lighting was of a high standard and the dimmers operated sensitively.

Unfortunately a few negative points. The scene changes which were slow, even overlapped a very sensitive and sad scene, with the stage manager walking in front of the actors to clear a table. There was no programme – even a simple single sided A5, with a list of names of all concerned would have been most welcome. The start time shown of this web site of 7.30 was actually two shows - 6.30 and 8.30. Having had my whinge, I must say I am very pleased that I caught this show.

A VERY good play with a strong cast. At $5 must be one of Perth’s cheapest. I look forward to their next production.
